These sizzling Egyptian-style combinations will enhance any type f belly dance performance, and can be used in improv or choreographed situations. These combinations might look complicated, but are broken down into clear, easy-to-follow segments. We will run the gamut from stationary gooey taxims to cute traveling steps, and through a series of turns, level changes and sassy beledy moves complete with footwork, hand and arm embellishments and use of space. We will also explore adding shimmy layers and spicing the moves up with level, speed and directional changes. This class is open to all levels.

Make your undulations look boneless as well as effortless! This special workshop focuses on slow movements and combinations perfectly suited for languid Oriental taqsim and chiftetelli pieces, such as layered shimmies, interesting variations on camels and figure eights, and veil work. It will also provide the building blocks for beautiful abdominal technique, like belly rolls and flutters, and the amazing flundulation - a belly roll layered with a flutter! Class includes a detailed handout sheet- bring a veil and a towel, you WILL be sweating!
About Princess Farhana
Internationally acclaimed dance star Princess Farhana has performed, taught and written about Oriental Dance for seventeen years. She has appeared in Egypt, France, Switzerland, Belgium, The United Kingdom, Portugal, Mexico and Canada, as well as all over the US, and belly danced at concerts with Arabic superstars Amr Diab, Hakim, Natacha Atlas, Ragheb Alama and Alabina.
She was voted “Oriental Dancer Of The Year 2006” by Zaghareet Magazine, and in 2007 was nominated for “Best Instructor” and “Best Interpretive Artist”. In May of 2007, The Princess received an award from The City of Los Angeles for her continuing artistic work within the community. She is also a regular contributor to belly dance publications Jareeda, Zaghareet, The Chronicles, Habibi, and The Belly Dancer Magazine, LARAQS.COM and BHUZ.COM and has written about Oriental Dance in many mainstream publications as well.
She’s acted and danced in numerous motion pictures; music videos (for Madonna, Ricky Martin and many others) television shows; and in documentary films on belly dance both performing and as an interview subject. Her most recent film credit is as sword dancing coach and assistant choreographer for the major motion picture “Charlie Wilson’s War” (December 2007) starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. A feature-length documentary on her dance career, “Underbelly”, directed by award-winning film maker Steve Balderson, is slated for release in Spring 2008
She has produced a number of dance events, as well as eight instruction / performance DVD videos. Princess Farhana is known for her high-concept, innovative performances, dazzling stage presence, impeccable technique and glittering, custom, hand-crafted costumes. Connecting to the core for more powerful movements through years of training in dance, pilates and yoga, Heather has developed a strong technique and practice. In this class students will be lead through exercises, drills, and movements that exemplify Heather's approach to powerful and expressive movement. Please bring a yoga mat.

Urban Tribal Dance Company is know for complexity and creativity. Learn some of the movements that make up the UTDC repertoire and then string them into fabulously funky combinations for use in improv or choreography.

Heather Stants is a lifelong artist and dancer with a degree in photography and fine arts. Her explorations in tribal belly dance began over twelve years ago when she became the assistant director of Read My Hips (www.readmyhips.com) in Chicago, Illinois. In 1999 Heather moved to San Diego, California, and launched the southern California tribal movement through her classes and the formation of Urban Tribal Dance Company.
Heather's diverse movement and arts background feeds her creativity and her groundbreaking approach to choreography. Urban Tribal Dance Company is known for its contemporary approach to belly dance, a pared down costume emphasizing body movements over ornamentation, athleticism, and the use of the dance form as a means of personal expression and interpretation. Their creativity has twice earned them the title of "Troupe of the Year" in Zaghareet! Magazine's Golden Belly Awards. Sadie is known world wide for her awesome drum solo technique and choreographies. She has been featured on many performance and instructional videos displaying her unique skill. In this workshop Sadie will take you through a series of exercises and drills that will break down the technique and her drum solo secrets like "Pops" and "Locks" to help you develop sharper more defined isolations necessary for fast drum solo choreographies.

Who doesn't love the fun and lively Arabic Pop song? In this workshop Sadie will hi-light many of the traditional Egyptian moves and add some zest and variety to give you a fresh and exciting pop choreography.
About Sadie
SADIE is an International performing artist, instructor and choreographer. She is recognized world wide as one of today's most exciting and talented Belly Dancers. Her ability to combine unbelievable strength, flexibility and isolation with fluid control and grace has amazed fans and audiences worldwide. Based in Denver, CO, Sadie offers weekly ongoing dance classes at Cherry Creek Dance, and performances and master workshops across the country as well as internationally.
Sadie has been featured in Volume II of BD-TV and several volumes of IAMED and Hollywood Music Center Belly Dance performance DVD's. Sadie was a featured performer on the recent video release by the Emmy award nominated Michael Drumm's "Temptation of Belly Dance", and also has a line of instructional videos produced by IAMED. To be released this year are DVDs "Ciftitelli Taksim & Slow Moves", "Ultimate Drills & Combos" and "Frills & Embellishments".
Sadie is preparing for one of her most exciting and busy years filled with International performances and workshops as a solo artist as well as with dance partner Kaya. Since joining forces the two are bringing to life their innovative visions for the stage, which go beyond Belly Dance alone. They co-direct the world dance company Groove du Monde, meaning Groove of the World, a perfectly suited title to encompass the passion and respect they both share for all the music and dances of the world. In this workshop you learn several of Kassar's slow and sultry signature combinations. These combinations challenge you to move in unique ways, incorporating painfully slow moves and level changes. Every combination will be outlined and drilled, then combined to form the final choreography. This challenging workshop is open to belly dancers of all levels.

3:00 – 4:30 pm Traveling with Isolations :: Kassar
Think you have mastered your isolations? Join Kassar for a workshop that will push your boundaries and train your mind and body to connect and move in unique ways. We will travel with basic isolations, expanding your technique repertoire and movement vocabulary. An open mind and a basic mastery of tribal isolations is recommended, but not required. This challenging workshop is open to belly dancers of all levels.

Melanie and Karin began their history together as a collaboration for a New Jersey Renaissance Kingdom performance. From there, the duo Kassar was born. They have been dancing together as Kassar for the past eight years, all the while studying with numerous instructors of the tribal persuasion. Between them, they also bring a background rich in formal ballet training, West African dance, tango fusion, and Indian dance technique. This has culminated in the development of their own unique, highly-acclaimed style of tribal bellydance. Kassar has since grown to both teach workshops and perform nationwide.
