Code of Conduct
I. MECDA Members, when representing MECDA, will conduct themselves in
a dignified manner in accordance with the MECDA Code of Conduct and
A. Meetings: Members will conduct themselves in an orderly manner,
with due respect for Parliamentary Procedure. Anyone who
purposely disrupts a meeting or refuses to relinquish the floor, may
be asked to leave the meeting.
B. Conduct at any performance for which member is hired as a

She/He will make every effort to inform the club owner or
sponsor of illness or emergency as soon as physically
possible; and will assist in finding a replacement. Any
intoxicated person who is performing, volunteering, or
otherwise working at a MECDA event shall be removed and
sent home safely. Any MECDA officer who is intoxicated at
an event will be asked to leave the venue (wnad will be
helped to do so safely when possible). If an officer repeats
this behavior, he or she faces removal of their honorarium if
applicable and possible removal from office. Anyone wishing
to protest or petition against MECDA representatives for
misbehavior must do so outside the confines of the MECDA
2. Members performing/vending/working in any type of venue
will honor conditions of their contract unless said contract is
broken by the originator.
3. Member will do nothing to jeopardize legal or safe conditions
in place of work. Member will agree not to work if such
a. No illegal consumption of alcohol or drugs inside
b. No damage or theft of property.
4. Member will not use property such as telephones or
equipment without the express permission of the owner.
Members should respectfully refrain from filming at any
event without prior approval of the event official. This
includes cameras and cell phones that have the ability to
record video. Any persons caught filming at a MECDA event
without permission shall be asked to stop and if asked a 2nd
time, will be removed from the event.
5. Member will be properly attired on and off stage.
a. No exposure of genitalia or nipples.
b. If exposure should occur (ie – broken strap) member will
remedy situation immediately, or promptly retire to private
c. Member will not remove bra, belt or skirt during any belly
•Note: The above rules shall be followed without deviation
with the exception of the following instances:
(1) In the instance of nudity presented as “art” within
theater or other venues. Members shall post a
warning in all advertising and by signage at the front
of said venue.
(2) In the instance of Burlesque and themes of Adult
Content, Members shall post a warning in all
advertising and by signage at the front of said venue
that the materials presented are of “Adult Themes and
Parental Discretion Advised”.
Themes of Adult Content are performances including
Burlesque, Stripping, Nudity, Horror, and any dark
themes deemed disturbing to children.
6. Member will conduct herself in a respectful manner toward
employers, customers, host and hostesses, vendors, and
promoters. Members will neither initiate nor accept any
disrespectful treatment from anyone involved.
a. If any situation becomes intolerable, member will remove
herself from situation and report to owner or manager. If
owner/manager will not or cannot control the situation (ie –
drunk or abusive customer) member will retire to safe place
in club or, if necessary, leave stage or premises.
b. Tips: Member will accept tips only in traditional and proper
manner. Member will discourage odious tipping practices.
c. Member will not touch another person in any way that is
not deemed accepted public behavior.
7. Member will show proper respect and treatment of sister or
a. Member will do nothing in any way detrimental to another
dancer with malice aforethought.
b. When sharing a dressing room, member will keep room in
as clean and orderly a condition as possible. Member will
allow other dancer proper space for costumes and make-up,
and will do nothing to jeopardize her health or legal rights.
c. Member will not steal, damage or borrow without
permission, any article belonging to roommate.
d. Member will not allow visitors in dressing room without
permission of roommate.
e. Personal information obtained in private will be respected
as such. Member will not repeat gossip or information that
could be detrimental to the welfare or happiness of other
dancers, or members of the ethnic community.
f. Member will respect minimum MECDA wage and will not
undercut other dancers in order to obtain work.
II. These rules shall apply to situations other than performances.
III. Member will respect all MECDA boycotts and pickets, and will not
patronize or work in boycotted clubs.
IV. If member is convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving moral
turpitude (ie – sexual misbehavior in public, indecent exposure), MECDA
reserves the right to review and/or revoke membership.
V. Failure to comply with MECDA’s Code of Conduct can result in a find
and/or suspension or loss of membership. Decisions and interpretation of
the Code of Conduct will be the responsibility of the Ethics Committee.
Members are encouraged to report any unsafe or unlawful working
conditions, or any situation contrary to the specifications of our MECDA
Contract to the Ethics Committee.
